Madison Facility The Horticulture Assistant will regularly work closely with the facilities team, patients, families, and other visitors at our Madison facility.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS ROLE (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) The Horticulture Assistant is responsible for landscape & garden maintenance of all gardens and grounds, providing supervision for volunteers.
During the Winter months this role will provide support to DME (Durable Medical Equipment) Warehouse and assist with snow removal.
Horticulture Assist in maintenance of patient room patio landscaping.
Assist in maintenance and development of gardens, landscaped areas, prairies, and woodlands.
Assist in Horticulture program development.
Landscape Perform general site maintenance including operation of power equipment.
Performing mulching, edging, pruning, and other landscape maintenance.
Volunteer Supervision Lead volunteers on maintenance of gardens.
Delegate tasks to 1-10 volunteers DME (Durable Medical Equipment) Report to warehouse located in Waunakee OR Milton Clean returned equipment as required by applicable regulatory requirements, safety standards, and in-house policies/procedures/protocols.
Perform repair, calibration, and preventative maintenance on equipment.
Making recommendations on replacement of damaged items.
Monitor inventory of warehouse stock items and supplies.
Request additional items and supplies as appropriate.
Assist with annual physical count audit.
YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS) Experienced gardener with demonstrated horticulture knowledge including plant identification/care.
Experienced landscaper with demonstrated landscape knowledge including mulching, edging & pruning.
Two years of relevant experience preferred.
Ability to direct volunteers Proficiency with hand and power tools Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to be flexible in time and task to meet organizational needs.
Ability to maintain confidentiality about patients, families, caregivers, staff, donors, and organizational intellectual property.
Ability to use proper body mechanics and standard precautions.
